Vertical Slice and the Future of "Deep Space Diner"


Hello everyone and thank you for taking some time to have a look at the current state of our game ‘Deep Space Diner’. 

The semester is coming to an end therefore this will be our last devlog for this year. We will resume the devlogs sometime in February and hopefully we will have much more to show. 

At current, we have been working on a vertical slice for our game. We haven't made any large changes such as implementation of new mechanics as we have been focusing on polishing the gameplay. Some minor bug fixes were made as well as some alterations. These included resizing the seed bags so that its easier to tell which seed you are planting. The UI for cooking is currently being looked at as we are considering removing the text so it is easier to look at and navigate. This is what the game currently looks like:






The future of the game

Our next priorities will be adding the currency, inventory system and the background to the game. While working on this, new characters, ingredients and dishes will also continue to be worked on.  A custom font for the game will also have to be created to fit into the aesthetic of the game.  Particle effects will hopefully be added soon as they are crucial to the clarity of gameplay in the game. As the game is fast-paced being able to tell if the ingredients are ready for harvest is very important. 

These are currently the concepts for the inventory building. One is designed after a silo while the other after a chest.


Here are also some ingredient and character concepts. Cat-whale is very cute. Our lead artist has been working very hard and when he is unable to do a completed piece he will always do up some concept sketches so there is always new things in development.
