Alien Farming and the team
Hello everyone and thank you for taking some time to have a look at the current state of our game ‘Alien Farming’.
We currently have a finalized concept for the game with a few sketches and concept art but let me start by introducing the team first. The team consists of four members, two primarily focusing on programming, Sergiu and Conor and the other two focusing on art, Daniel and Marika. The game is still at its very early stage. However we have a strong vision for what we want the final product to be.
The game has changed from its original concept as it was initially intended to be a casual, slow paced farming game. Eventually the idea of a fast paced gameplay was brought up and we thought it would be interesting and would make the game more unique from other farming games which tend to be casual in nature. This would also add replayability to the game as you could try to optimize and complete the goal of achieving 5 stars for your restaurant faster. We are currently considering adding in game achievements in order to give players more short term and long term milestones.
To sum up a description of the game, it is a fast paced farming game in which you harvest space crops to make space dishes for your space customers in SPACE. The game will be controlled primarily by mouse and will be easy to navigate to promote its fast paced nature.
The game will be viewed from an isometric view. You will be able to zoom into your farm plots to plant, water or harvest. The Order and Cooking machine will both have UI screens which will look something like this:
The game will have a day cycle and therefore the orders you receive will not carry over to the next day and will be reset to new orders instead. The more orders you complete the more crops and recipes you will unlock and be able to expand your farm.
The style of the game is 2D isometric cartoon with a mix of neon and pastel for the colour palette. Here are some examples of what the assets for the game would look like:
We are hoping to have a playable prototype completed by next week, showcasing the basic mechanics of the game. We currently have the harvesting and partial cooking implemented and we're working on the inventory as well as adding some more crops and dishes.
